In late summer 2025, SWR Kultur will take listeners on a journey into the world of Anno 117: Pax Romana with a fictional podcast series. This standalone story is set in the universe of the upcoming game in the Anno series. The SWR Symphony Orchestra will record the soundtrack live, specifically for the podcast.

Südwestrundfunk (SWR) remains open to the medium of gaming. The public broadcasting company is planning a fictional podcast series set in the world of Anno 117: Pax Romana, offering a unique, standalone story. SWR’s interest in the project stems from the fact that Anno is being developed at Ubisoft Bluebyte in Mainz, which falls within the SWR broadcasting region. The podcast series—produced by SWR Kultur and Guter Content and set for release in late summer—marks the first time in German-speaking countries that gaming and fictional audio storytelling have been combined in this way. The goal is not only to appeal to fans and gamers but also to introduce a wider audience to the immersive and exciting worlds that video games can create.

The music for the podcast series is composed by the same artists behind the game’s soundtrack. The SWR Symphony Orchestra will record the soundtrack on March 29 at the SWR Funkstudio Berg in Stuttgart.

In recent years, SWR has repeatedly attracted attention with unusual games projects. For example, there are now two parts of a chat-based Tatort game. In addition, SWR had launched the audio game app Pale Blue.
