Lucina Hum’s interest in speedrunning reaches back into her earliest childhood memories. “An experience that describes very well how I came to become a speedrunner involves a school friend inviting me to play Super Mario Galaxy at his house when I was seven. Shortly before the second star, there was a puzzle where you had to collect several small star fragments in order to be able to pull yourself towards the star. My friend really wanted me to collect the fragments, but the star looked like I could easily get it with a long jump. And I did. After that, his mom kicked me out because he started crying about it”, Hum laughs. Later on she stumbled over Super Mario 64 speedruns on Justin.tv, now Twitch, and realised what an impact events like Games Done Quick could have.
