The accession is unusual in that game, an association from Germany, is already part of the EGDF. On the other hand, Germany is not the only country represented by more than one organization in the EGDF. Poland and Belgium also have more than one EGDF member.

"We at Games Bavaria Munich are delighted to formally join the European Games Developer Federation. Over the years we have already enjoyed a deeply collaborative relationship, and with this step we align the strength of Bavaria’s creative games ecosystem with the reach and impact of a pan-European network. Together, we will work to enhance developer conditions, ramp up innovation and secure our region’s place among Europe’s leading games hubs," says Ben Zuckerer Chairman of the board of GBM.

And Jari-Pekka Kaleva, Managing Director EGDF, adds: "The growth and competitiveness of the European game industry is built on strong regional industry ecosystems. It is essential for us to ensure that their voice is heard loud and clear in our decision making."

However, the connection between GBM and EDGF is strong and personal even without membership: Hendrik Lesser, President of EGDF, was one of the co-initiators of Games Bavaria Munich in 2015 and has also been its managing director ever since.

The EGDF has been able to announce new members repeatedly in recent months. For example, the Irish association IMIRT, the Macedonian Games Industry Association, and WALGA have joined the EGDF.
