Koei Tecmo Games had a major success last year with Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Now, the first expansion, Visions of Four Heroes, featuring spectacular Musou mass battles, has been released.
With over a million copies sold within a month of its release, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, released in January 2025, has been a huge success for Koei Tecmo Games. Its 1-vs-1000 Musou mass battles were also very popular, so it's no surprise that Koei Tecmo is releasing DLC for the game, namely Visions of Four Heroes, the first expansion for Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
In Visions of Four Heroes, players can accompany Zhang Jiao, Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shao and Lu Bu through 'What If' scenarios. These four separate, linear mini-campaigns can be accessed via the inn menu (chapter 2 of the main game) and scale to the player's level. The stories depict the characters as idealised heroes, featuring some rather lengthy story cutscenes. However, they are clearly detached from the events of the main game. Depending on their play style, players can expect to spend between two and four hours completing each campaign.

The Visions of Four Heroes DLC kicks off with Zhang Jiao's Yellow Turban story arc. After that, players can choose how to proceed. Each campaign takes place on a small section of the familiar world map. As in the main game, it's the large-scale, thrilling mass battles that make the game so entertaining, especially since the campaigns usually end spectacularly. However, the battles take place on modified but largely familiar maps. Overall, though, the campaigns are quite different. There are new companion characters, and players have the opportunity to earn Visionary Skill Points in the missions. These unlock nodes on a new Skill Panel, which is limited to DLC content only. This system gradually evolves combat. New weapons include the "Bow" and the "Rope Dart", each with their own skill tree and abilities. The combat style of the "Rope Dart" in particular feels unique and different.
In addition, Training Ground is added, a place where players can sharpen their skills before setting out onto the battlefield. However, it's a bit disappointing that such a feature is hidden behind the DLC barrier instead of being made available to all players for free.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Visions of Four Heroes was released on 22 January 2026, priced at €34.99, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The main game, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is required. Both the main game and the DLC are also now available for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game features Japanese and English voice-overs and text in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Apart from Visions of Four Heroes, Koei Tecmo has a lot more in the pipeline for the first half of the year. These include Nioh 3, developed by Team Ninja (a Koei Tecmo division), which is due to be released on 6 February 2026; the remake of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly (also known as Project Zero 2: Crimson Butterfly in Europe), which is due to be released on 12 March 2026; and Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, which is due to be released on 19 March 2026.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins Visions of Four Heroes is a good expansion, once again unleashing impressive mass battles. However, it seems a little too expensive, and its side-mission nature is somewhat apparent.
