2026 is set to be a busy year for Capcom, with four releases already announced. It begins with the release of Resident Evil Requiem on 27 February, almost exactly one year after the record-breaking launch of Monster Hunter: Wilds. This will be followed by Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection on 13 March. Next up are Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Pragmata.

Capcom already has one of the most highly anticipated games in preparation: Resident Evil Requiem. Recent games in the series have all been million-sellers and have enjoyed widespread popularity among players and critics alike. It is on over two million wish lists and is currently the fourth most wishlisted game on Steam. Requiem is the ninth main game in the series and follows Resident Evil Village. It has also received a lot of acclaim prior to its release. At the gamescom Awards 2025, it won a total of four awards, more than any other title, including Best Visuals, Best Audio, Most Epic and Best Sony PlayStation Game.

Alongside the Resident Evil series, Capcom is continuing the RPG spin-off Monster Hunter Stories, in which players raise monsters instead of hunting them. In keeping with this, at the end of September 2025, the publisher made the previous two games available on Xbox for the first time, thus covering all platforms. Both Resident Evil Requiem and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will be presented in more detail on the following pages and will be available in German retail stores. CentreSoft GmbH (formerly NBG Distribution), the German branch of the British distributor CentreSoft, is responsible for the local distribution of both games for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms.

Next year will also see the return of the Onimusha franchise. Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be the series' first new instalment in almost two decades. Set in the age of Japan's warring states, the Sengoku period, Onimusha blends history with Japanese folklore - telling the stories of warriors who wield the mystical powers of the Oni. These heroes find themselves caught up in a battle with the Genma, relentless monsters who want to take over the world. The franchise debuted in 2001, captivating players with its sword-based combat and the "Issen" counter. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in Kyoto during the early Edo period. Despite this period of relative peace in Japan, evil has descended upon the ancient city. The city has been transformed into an eerie and unsettling place, haunted by demonic Genma. This single-player action game is set to be released in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

While Onimusha marks the return of a well-known franchise, Pragmata is a completely new venture. Originally scheduled for release in 2022, the game, which was announced in June 2020, has been postponed several times. However, 2026 is finally the year. More precisely, Pragmata is set to launch on 24 April 2026. In addition to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it will also be available on Switch 2. The game is set in the near future on the Moon. One day, Earth suddenly lost contact with a lunar research station dedicated to a fictitious material called Lunafilament. The player character, Hugh Williams, is sent to investigate. Following a moonquake, he becomes separated from his team and suffers injuries. He is then rescued by Pragmata, an enigmatic android created with Lunafilament that has the appearance of a young girl named Diana. Together, they must combat a bot threat at the station and find a way back to Earth. Hacking and shooting form the core of the gameplay. During combat, a targeting reticle appears on the screen. This represents Diana's ability to hack into the enemy's defences. By manoeuvring the cursor through this field, Diana can destroy the enemy's armour, allowing Hugh to attack their weak points with his arsenal of weapons. This system challenges players to adapt to different situations in the heat of battle. Hacking abilities can also be used outside of combat to access the station's systems and remove barriers.

So, what's next for the classic Monster Hunter series? Since both Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter Rise have received major expansions - Iceborne and Sunbreak - it is reasonable to expect that Monster Hunter Wilds will receive one too, even though this has not yet been officially announced. However, this may take some time, as player sentiment towards Monster Hunter Wilds is currently quite mixed. Players have criticised the comparatively low level of difficulty, the lack of content and the overall technical performance on PC. When the game was released in February 2025, it sold just over 10 million copies by the end of March. In the following two quarters, however, only 477,000 and 160,000 units were sold, which the publisher described as 'soft'. In response to the criticism, Capcom has introduced several updates, including challenge quests, the Grand Hub and a collaboration with FF XIV, as well as new monsters. The major Title Update 4 is planned for 16 December 2025. This update will deliver additional content, including Gogmazios, the first Elder Dragon in Wilds, and the expansion of endgame content with the addition of the Gogma Artian Weapons. In addition, Capcom is improving the game's stability and performance, implementing various improvements including CPU/GPU optimization for all platforms. "To further improve stability and performance, additional improvements will be implemented in a patch exclusive to the Steam version in late January 2026, as well as in the Ver. 1.041 update in February," the developers wrote. However, no major expansion has been announced yet. By releasing an expansion, the company could breathe new life into the game. If they prioritise the wishes and concerns of players, Monster Hunter Wilds could develop into the kind of long-seller that Capcom is known for.

With this line-up, it's clear that Capcom is gearing up for a successful 2026. By the way: Mega Man: Dual Override, the twelfth mainline instalment in the Mega Man series, was unveiled at The Game Awards 2025 and will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in 2027. The band Evanescence gave a special live performance of their song Afterlife from the Netflix series Devil May Cry and announced that the second season will premiere on 12 May 2026. Finally, the cast of Capcom and Legendary Entertainment's upcoming Street Fighter film took to the stage to present an award and offer a sneak preview of the film. The cast included Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken), Callina Liang (Chun-Li), Cody Rhodes (Guile) and Jason Momoa (Blanka).
