Global Game Jam (GGJ) 2026, the world’s largest collaborative game development event, returns this January. The coming jam will take place from 26 January to 1 February 2026. GGJ is an annual, worldwide event where participants form small teams to create games over a short, intensive period, inspired by a shared global theme.

There are several GGJ sites per country, and through the site finder, several GSA locations have already announced their participation.

In Austria, 5 locations are currently known:

  • Graz University of Technology
  • DACH-Gamejam (fully remote, organised from Vienna)
  • inDIdev Vorarlberg, Dornbirn
  • TU Wien, Vienna

University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten

New locations can be added throughout January and will appear in the location finder later on. All in all, this makes 47 locations in GSA so far. Last year there were 38 locations in GSA – 27 in Germany, 5 in Austria, and 6 in Switzerland. 

Key Dates for Global Game Jam 2026

  • 19–23 January 2026 – GGJ Prep Week
  • 24–25 January 2026 – Global Theme Reveal Event (YouTube & Twitch)
  • 26 January 2026 – Global Game Jam begins worldwide
  • 1 February 2026 – Jam concludes

GGJ is also celebrating the 2026 edition as a landmark of its lifetime, because the lifetime participant count will in all likelihood breach 500,000 people this time.
